Gobi Manchurian-Baked (Healthy Version)

Gobi or Cauliflower manchurian.....who can resist this mouth watering dish?? Its my all time favourite. Gobi manchurian was a must menu whenever we used to dine out during college days. It has been a long time since I prepared this dish. Usually for this manchurian, gobi florets are dipped in maida or corn flour batter and then deep fried in oil. But I wanted to try these in a different and healthy way. So I thought of baking them rather than deep frying and I used wheat flour rather than maida. The manchurian came out very well and was finished by us in no time...!! So do try these healthy dry Gobi manchurian and  you can relish them whole heartedly without worries about the calories...

Baked Gobi Manchurian
Baked Gobi Manchurian

Ingredients:

1/2 of a Cauliflower

For the batter:
1/2 cup Wheat flour
1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
1 tsp soya sauce
1 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp pepper
Salt

For the Sauce:
1 Onion finely chopped
1 Bell Pepper chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 Green chillies slit
2 tbsp Soya sauce
2 tbsp Tomato chilli sauce
1 tsp Chilli powder
1 tsp Oil
Salt

Baked Gobi florets before adding sauce

Cut the cauliflower or gobi into small florets.Boil water in a vessel, add the florets along with a little salt and a pinch of turmeric. Cook for 4-5 minutes.Drain the water and allow the florets to cool.

Now preheat the oven to 400F.Line a baking tray with aluminium foil.Spray some oil using cooking spray.(or just apply some oil with hand)

In a bowl, add all the ingredients under For the batter. Now mix them well into a batter by adding very little water at a time. The batter shouldn't be too thick or too thin. Dip the florets in the batter and transfer them to the baking tray.Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until it gets browned evenly.

While gobi is getting baked, you can prepare the sauce. Heat oil in a pan, add garlic and chillies.Saute them until garlic turns slight brown. Now add the onions.Fry the onions until they turn brown.Add the bell pepper and fry for a while. When the bellpepper is also cooked, add the sauces, salt and chilli powder.Mix well.

Finally add the baked cauliflower florets to the sauce and coat them well with the sauce.
If you want , you can garnish with some chopped spring onions.

Its better to eat it immediately. So serve hot. Enjoy the delicious and healthy manchurian..!!

Baked version is awesome! Also gets done in one batch instead of frying in several batches in oil , so time saving too :)
