Sweet Poha / Aval Nanachathu and Happy 2012 !!

Wishing all of you a very Happy and  Prosperous New Year ! Hope all of you had a great time celebrating the arrival of 2012. We waited till midnight along with our friends on the new year eve and wished our near and dear ones. It was party time for last couple of days, now I am relaxing after cooking and eating so many delicious food at the parties :).

I thought of celebrating the beginning of new year with a simple sweet and by offering to Lord Ganesha.Om Vigneshwaraya Namah !! May Lord Ganesha bless all of us with happiness, success and good health this year and the coming years too.

This sweet is a very common snack in Kerala and also made as a prasad to God on festive days. This is very  quick to make and needs only few ingredients.

What you need?

1.5 cup thin Poha / Flattened rice
1/2 cup grated Coconut
3-4 tbsp Sugar or to taste
1/2 tsp Cardamom powder
1 tbsp Nuts/Raisins
a little Milk / Water

How to prepare?

Combine poha, coconut and sugar. Sprinkle milk to this, a little at a time and mix with hand so that poha becomes moist, but not soggy. Once well combined, add caramom powder and mix. Finally add the nuts and raisins.

Notes:

* You can chop a banana and add to this at the end.
* You can use jaggery instead of sugar.

Sending this to the Kerala Kitchen event hosted by Kaveri , original event announcement here.

Have a great week and a wonderful year ahead !!
